Eligibility by Country

In order to be eligible for the 2016 Yale Young African Scholars Program, you must be a citizen of an African country and currently attend school on the African continent. YYAS accepts applications from current or rising high school juniors (US grade 11), or the international equivalent. Students will have 1.5 – 2 years left before completing high school, depending on academic calendar (see some specific country examples below). YYAS does not accept applications from current seniors (US grade 12), secondary school graduates, or college/university undergraduate students.

The countries listed below are just a few examples of our eligibility requirements, based on the volume of applications we receive from these countries. Students from all other African countries are still eligible and encouraged to apply.

If you have any questions about your eligibility please email african.scholars@yale.edu.
